Weekly Photo Challenge: Summer Lovin’

After a very long winter, I am loving this summer–another perfectly apt theme for this week’s photo challenge.    Here’s a collection of shots taken over the last month or so in New Jersey, New York, and Chicago.  For once, I’ll be quiet and let the pictures and the quotes say it all–

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.

The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.

I believe that summer is our time, a time for the people, and that no politician should be allowed to speak to us during the summer. They can start talking again after Labor Day.

Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.

  1. Wow Patti, that Chicago beach seems packed to the brim, must have been a lovely summers day. And the sunflower photo is brilliant!

Thanks for sharing our entry with your readers, we appreciate it very much :-D

    • The digital fountains/installations are amazing. There are 2 of them in Millennium Park. I love watching the kids and adults interact with them. Thanks for your thoughts!

  2. These beautiful photos are a great representation of my favorite summer treats: flowers, lounging by lake, water play, and afternoon bike rides. It is only missing ice cream!
