After a very long winter, I am loving this summer–another perfectly apt theme for this week’s photo challenge. Here’s a collection of shots taken over the last month or so in New Jersey, New York, and Chicago. For once, I’ll be quiet and let the pictures and the quotes say it all–
And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.
― Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting
Summer is very precious. —Dylan Lauren
I believe that summer is our time, a time for the people, and that no politician should be allowed to speak to us during the summer. They can start talking again after Labor Day.
Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.
― Henry James
And finally, here’s a summer song for you–
I hope you’re enjoying this summer too!
