Weekly Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition

I get the same charge from juxtaposition of colors as I do from juxtaposition of chords–Joni Mitchell

This week Michelle posed a great weekly photo challenge on the theme of “juxtaposition,” which is at the heart of all creativity.  By taking diverse ideas,  objects, musical chords, concepts, or colors and bringing them together in unexpected ways, the artist is truly creating something new.   Sometimes when I see a great creative idea (or performance), it gives me a frisson –a shiver of excitement.  These great “aha” moments can open up new pathways in our way of thinking,  spark other ideas and maybe give us some great insights and laughs.  (Here’s a classic from Saturday Night Live as an example–https://screen.yahoo.com/total-bastard-airlines-000000788.html  )

Next, here are some “juxtapositions” that I’ve collected in my travels.

Cities are about juxtaposition.–Richard Rogers

1.  No matter how many times I visit Chicago, I am always startled by the juxtaposition of the beach within the city.
