Phoneography Challenge: Nature

This week, Sally at Lens and Pens discusses the evolution of the iPhone as a legitimate photographic tool and also notes the anniversary of her weekly Phoneography Challenges.   So, now, in turn, I’d like to thank Sally for throwing down the iPhone gauntlet and daring us to push the limits of our Smartphones.  Since joining the challenge last year, I have been shocked at the capabilities of my humble but mighty iPhone, which has totally banished my snobbish conviction that it is a limited photographic tool.  I have been delighted and amazed at the quality of the photos and the power of the easily-accessible iPhone.  My next foray is using the phone for time lapses, but that is another challenge in itself!

For this week’s nature theme, I am using a shot of a tropical sky on a stormy day.  It was taken with my trusty iPhone 4 and processed with the iPhoto editing tools and Photoshop.   I used the dodge and burn tool to highlight the area around the palm trees and darken parts of the sky to reveal the texture and stiration of the clouds.  Enjoy this hint of warmth during this interminable winter!

  1. Your thoughts on the iPhone as a camera are really well put! I really like the highlight around the tree. I’ve never done something like that… great idea! Thank you so much for the pingback. 😀
