WPC: Connected and Disconnected

Sometimes we forget the infinite connections between all of us living here on this beautiful blue planet.  Imagine each of us as a particle of light.  Together, we create a map.

No matter if we live in cities–

Or, in the country.  We are connected by the very fact we are alive, and we are sharing this time and place on Earth together.

It’s so easy to focus on our differences.

It’s far easier to say, “I don’t understand you and you don’t understand me.” And leave it at that.  But are we really trying hard enough?  And doesn’t mistrust come from not understanding the “other?”  And fearing what we don’t know?

It is harder, much harder to make peace.   But it is more necessary than ever.  How can we begin?  Verna Myers tells us how we can “walk boldly” towards our biases and start to change them.  (Yes, we ALL have them, whether we admit it or not.)

Do you have another idea of how we can take just one small step towards connectedness, towards understanding others?  What is it?  I’d love to hear from you.

    • Thanks so much, Jean! I’m going to stop by and see your interpretation as well. This topic is one of the “themes” that runs through my writing. I’m inspired by it and I’m glad you liked it too.

  1. Thanks so much, Jackie. I appreciate it! I hope you’ve had a great holiday weekend. We spent most of it at the beach! 🙂 You’re right about the “dreamy” quality of the landscape when you’re coming in for a landing. New York never ceases to amaze me.

    • Hi Jane. Thanks so much! I love coming in for a landing and seeing the city lit up with lights. I’ll stop by your “place” and see what you’re up to. Hope you had a good “end of summer” holiday.

  2. Great post Patti! I think it starts with nature and animals. As long as we continue to grow our human population and we begin to invade ecosystems just because we have to build housing for all those people who are born; we continue to show a lack of respect for humans too. I think it starts with education and the environment; but our subconscious will not have it nor accept it.

  3. The first photo looks good and would have looked amazing at night. I liked the words too, goes very well with the picture.
Human race is connected and yet so disconnected.

  4. Great take on this. In Sweden we are now seeing waves of immigrants from Syria. Despite the right wing politicians, like SD party, people everywhere now demonstrate their willingness to help. The newcomers are met with food, clothes, toys for the children and open arms from ordinary people. We are all connected. These tragic wars and IS assaults have set millions and millions of people on the road to escape the terror and horror. We are all connected. We must help each other. We are all here, now – just as you say.
