WPC: Grid(ilicious)

This week, let’s take the humble grid out of the shadows, and make it the star–Michelle W.

I love grids.  They satisfy my need for orderliness and symmetry. (Yes, I am the kind of person who straightens a crooked tableware setting before I start to eat.) So, for this week’s theme, I have assembled a collection of photos–some old, and some new–that feature grids.

Photo #1:  Brooklyn Museum of Art.  The color of this grid in the Beaux-Arts court in the Brooklyn Museum of Art and its massive scale are absolutely stunning.  To get a sense of how large it is, compare it to the people on the far right.

Photo #2:  Central Park Conservancy, New York City.  This past spring, I was fortunate to go on a walk with my sister-in-law to the Central Park Conservancy.  We walked under a lovely shaded arbor created by wisteria which covered the trellis overhead.

Photo #3:  Tlaquepague Shopping Plaza, Sedona, Arizona.  This bearded god guarding a fountain caught my eye.  I’m glad he wasn’t guarding a drinking fountain or I’d still be thirsty!

Photo #4:  This Buddha, made of dozens of panels of reflective glass, was an entry in the Art Prize 2013 competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  It was massive and stunningly beautiful.

  4. ArtPrize will start again soon. I hope you have your Canon ready and willing to capture. I didn’t manage to see the Buddha chainmail the year it was here. More’s the pity. Glad you captured its essence and posted it here.
