WPC: Faces in Chicago, Mexico, New York, and Grand Rapids

There’s nothing more interesting than the landscape of the human face.~Irvin Kershner

I don’t often shoot portraits because I’m still trying to overcome my shyness in approaching strangers, camera in hand.  But for this week’s photo challenge, here’s a collection of “faces” shot in braver moments when we were visiting several cities in the United States and Mexico.  Each face brings back a memory of a moment, frozen in time.  The little girl in the first shot was walking with her mother down Michigan Avenue in Chicago, not far from the American Girl store.  Her doll, poking out of her backpack, made me smile.

This little baby on the beach in San Jose del Cabo caught my eye and gave me a beautiful smile.  She was so friendly and engaging that I had to capture the moment.  Her mother graciously obliged.

This adorable little redhead was learning how to dance one summer evening in Rosa Parks Circle in Grand Rapids.  I love the look of delight on her face.

We walked right by this waitress at a local restaurant on Halloween.  It wasn’t until she said “hello” and we took a closer look at her that we realized she was our friend, Audrey.

This young woman stopped us on the street in Manhattan, offering free yogurt samples.  She had such a beautiful smile that I had to take her photo.

Are you “camera shy” when it comes to taking pictures of strangers?  Have you overcome it?   If so, please share your tips!

And have a wonderful week, everyone!

  1. 😀 I like the green “monster” 😉
I don’t take pictures of strangers and post their faces on my blog.
If I see somebody I’d like to share a picture of, I’ll ask the person.
But I don’t do that very often.
Have a very HAPPY Sunday! 🙂

  3. I don’t often ask people to take their portraits. It takes a lot of courage in my book to ask a stranger to take their photo.
You did a wonderful job with these shots. Each subject looks to be in her element. 🙂
