WPC: Talking Heads–Narrow-Minded and Open-Minded

Let’s not be narrow, nasty, and negative.~T. S. Eliot

After a year of political carnage, in-fighting, and scandals in the United States, many of us are reeling from the ugliness and divisiveness aired hourly on the news outlets and in social media.    The near-daily verbal attacks, brawls, and scandals are a far cry from reasonable civilized discourse and principled leadership that we need to tackle the tough issues facing us as a society and citizens of the world.   So, can you see why I selected this photo for this week’s challenge?

I learned that very often the most intolerant and narrow-minded people are the ones who congratulate themselves on their tolerance and open-mindedness.~Christopher Hitchens

Where are the visionary leaders who clear the way to the future and make dreams a reality?

The most fatal illusion is the narrow point of view. Since life is growth and motion, a fixed point of view kills anybody who has one.~Brooks Atkinson

And who dare to envision a world of peace instead of war?

  1. Loved your perspective this week Patti. I thought about a similar approach but didn’t have the right photos; yours are perfect as are your quotes, nicely done! As for our “choices” this election, I find myself wondering how the heck we ever got ourselves into this predicament! As I’ve often said, no intelligent, sane person would ever want the darned job!!

  2. Thanks, Tina about the photos. I appreciate your kind words. True enough about the POTUS. But how I wish we had different choices for this election. 😦

  3. These sculptures reminded me of a similar sculpture in the Boboli Gardens in Florence. It was very large — maybe 10-12 feet tall. It’s been many years since I was there. I’m glad your post gave me a reason to think about it. 🙂

  4. Very good quotes as well…and that first image immediately sits in my mind. Over here in Sweden we all fear that the insane Trump will end up the leader of the USA. The combination Trump, Putin and Kim Yong Un…

  5. Hi Ann-Christine. Now, that is terrifying, isn’t it? Makes me think of the triumvirate–Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler–in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The 20th Century was the decade of the dictator, wasn’t it? Let’s not forget Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Franco….and the list goes on. Sadly, this is still continuing into the next century.
