It’s time for a little variety!  For my first entry to Leanne Cole’s  inspiring weekly photo challenge Monochrome Madness, here’s a shot of Westerkerk Church from 2002, taken on our first trip to Amsterdam.  For those of you who’ve read Anne Frank’s diaries, she often mentions this church, which was near her home.  As you enter the church, your eyes are drawn immediately upwards to the soaring vault of the ceiling.  I converted the color image into black and white and applied several Nik filters to bring out the details in the marble columns and the filigreed balconies and to emphasize the height of the building.   Somehow this solid structure conveys a delicate airiness–which is confounding and mesmerizing at the same time.

After a week of bruising political battles here in the USA and stressful moments at every turn, this is my attempt to bring to you a moment of  peaceful reflection.  Enjoy!  And have a great week, everyone.
