WPC: Anticipating Spring

We need the sweet pain of anticipation to tell us we are really alive.Albert Camus

Spring is coming. Amaryllis Bulb. Shot with a Canon 70D.

Waiting is never easy.  Time inches past, and restlessness overtakes even the most patient of us.

I am anticipating the end of a virus that struck me down this week and left me on the couch.  The good news is that it’s bitterly cold and stormy outside, so it’s nice to stay home, curled up under a blanket, and dropping off to sleep whenever I need to.

As the snow piles up outside (+25 inches), I have been staring longingly at this lovely amaryllis shoot that burst into bloom this week.  Its delicate beauty is hopeful and reminds me that I will shake this virus, just as surely as spring will come…in time.  These things can’t be rushed, as much as we’d like them to be under our own control.

I shot this image with my Canon 70D and a 85 to 200 mm lens.  I applied a detail enhancement and a HDR filter to bring out the highlights and shadows.  I offer it to you as a symbol of hope and beauty and the promise of spring.  Have a great holiday week, everyone!

  1. Yikes Patti, I don’t think it’s even officially winter yet!!! I too, however, look forward to spring 🙂 And I too was hit with a stomach bug this week – which I think we must thank winter for also. Hope you’re feeling better and enjoying your gorgeous bloom!!

    • You know, I was thinking of that as I wrote this post. We’re still not officially “in” winter yet! Oh dear. I hope you’re feeling better too. Thanks for the get-well wishes!
