Monochrome Madness: Riverside Church

Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.~Robert Frank

I’d like to pause in the midst of the holiday rush to offer you this moment of quiet contemplation at Riverside Church, one of my favorite spots on the Upper West Side in NYC.  This shot is also my submission for Leanne Cole’s marvelous weekly challenge: Monochrome Madness.  It will give you a good sense of the soaring majesty of the nave and the beautiful stained glass windows.

For those of you who are a bit adventurous, you can take an elevator to the base of the spire and walk the rest of the way to the top, past the huge cathedral bells.  At the very top, you can step out into a narrow balcony and enjoy the magnificent view of the river and the city spread out before you.

I’d also like to take a moment to wish you all the best in 2017.   I value you–my online friends–who have become my virtual creative community.  May the world continue to surprise and delight you.  May your life be filled with hope and satisfaction.

  1. Thanks so much, Jane! The shot is a few years “old,” but I would love to return there on my next trip to NYC. All the best to you in the new year, too, Jane. 🙂
