I’m far, far behind this month, my blogging friends.   I haven’t caught up reading your blog posts, enjoying your visual treasures, and posting my own images.  I will catch up, though.

Here are two entries to Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness–one from earlier this month and another for the second week in November.   So, maybe if you average the two deadlines, I’m almost on time??

In War

The first image was taken on a hike through Lowell, Michigan, with its famous steamboat, lovely historic downtown, and the North Country Trail which winds across the United States, bisects Michigan, and ends in North Dakota.  As we approached the trail several weekends ago, we passed a cemetery with quite a few Civil War veterans.  Each one was adorned with a silver star, which caught my eye.  The initials G.A.R. stand for the “Grand Army of the Republic.”  Each point of the star is etched with the insignia of one branch of the military.

In Peace

This second shot was a surprise.  I discovered it this weekend when I uncovered a stash of photo CDs.  This shot was taken many years ago when we were visiting Paris for the first time.  On a whim, I looked up and caught the delicate ironwork of the Eiffel Tower, which seems to defy the laws of gravity and load bearing support.
