WPC: Sunrise, Sunset

Unlike my fellow bloggers who post glorious sunrise photos, I am not going to do that.  In fact, after a thorough search of my image library, I could only find one or two shots at that time of day!   Needless to say, I prefer twilight, when golden light fills the sky and reflects off myriad surfaces–like water, rocks, and buildings.  You might be surprised that my collection focuses more on the ambient light and not the sun itself.  But the entire “story” of sunset encompasses both of these dimensions.

So, here we go!  My collection for this week’s challenge starts in Hollywood, Florida:

When the sun has set, no candle can replace it.― George R.R. Martin

After the Storm. Hollywood Florida. Shot with a Canon 70D.

And continues in Joshua Tree, California.

Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty.~John Ruskin

Sunset at Joshua Tree. Shot with a Fuji XT-2

Next, we’ll go to East Hampton, on Long Island.

I am very fond of sunsets. Come, let us go look at a sunset.~Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Flying Point Beach, The Hamptons, New York.  Shot with a Canon 70D.

Next, we’ll travel up north to Vancouver, B.C.  (This shot was taken by my son.)

Sunset is like a firework; when the firework dies, it creates dozens of other beauties: When the sun dies, it creates shining stars, mysterious moonlight, and gleamy lighthouses!― Mehmet Murat Ildan

Vancouver Sunset by Alex Moed

And finally, we’ll head to Chicago, where twilight is reflected in the sky and in the water in Lincoln Park.

The redness had seeped from the day and night was arranging herself around us. Cooling things down, staining and dyeing the evening purple and blue black.― Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees

Lincoln Park Sunset, Chicago. Shot with a Canon 70D.

Light is elemental to our daily lives and our creativity.  What time of the day do you prefer–sunrise or sunset?

Mostly, I hope your week is filled with sunshine all day long!

  1. These are lovely, Patti. 🙂 🙂 I especially like Flying Point beach. Such pretty lighting. I do love sunrise but I’m rarely anywhere to take interesting photos at that stage of the day.
