Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #7: Everyday Moments

The cool thing about being famous is traveling. I have always wanted to travel across seas, like to Canada and stuff.~Britney Spears

This week we are in the Canadian province of British Columbia.  So, for Amy’s “Everyday Moments“ theme for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, I’d like to share some highlights of our days here.

As the sun set on the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver, I headed out to the upper deck to capture the sunset along with dozens of passengers.  As you can see, Canada is a place of stunning natural beauty.

Even the cities in Canada have great outdoor spaces, like this beach in English Bay which is in walking distance of downtown Vancouver.  I loved how this clever man hung his hammock on a beach art installation.

Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, B.C.

Vancouver city planners have created several beautiful spaces to enjoy nature.  The gardens in Queen Elizabeth Park are spectacular and feature walking paths, a conservatory, formal gardens, a restaurant, and miles of green space.

Agreeable people are warm and friendly. They’re nice; they’re polite. You find a lot of them in Canada.~Adam Grant

Every Canadian has a complicated relationship with the United States, whereas Americans think of Canada as the place where the weather comes from.― Margaret Atwood

We admit there is some truth to Margaret Atwood’s statement.  So, while we are here in Canada, we are learning more about its history, its people.  The appreciation of the natural beauty of the land is something I believe we share with Canada.

Stanley Park, Vancouver, B.C.

Vancouver is a coastal city, surrounded by water and mountains.  Its weather can change suddenly.  When the winds shifted, smoke from the forest fires in the province blew over the city.  For several days, we lived in a smoggy haze, but fortunately, the fires have abated a bit and clear skies have returned.

As we continue our travels this year, we have renewed our resolution– not to be tourists and look for authentic experiences so we can learn more about different cultures, languages and countries.  It has been a fascinating experience.

  1. I agree, Canada is a place of stunning natural beauty! All are beautifully captured, Patti.
    So well said about learn and appreciate more about different cultures while we travel. Thank you for the reminder. 🙂

    • Thank you so much, Amy. I am having fun photographing the sites here. It’s tempting to think that the USA and Canadian cultures are very similar, but we’re finding out there are differences. Their news, for example, is far more upbeat than ours and tries to present more of a balanced look at issues. Refreshing!!

    • Yes! The fires were very bad for a few days, but now the wind is heading east, so it’s cleared here. I was surprised about the headache, sore throat, etc. from the particles 😦

  13. Vancouver and Vancouver are so much more than everyday places! I have enjoyed my visits to them and have found Canadians to be extremely welcoming people. I have enjoyed looking at your photos and remember that sculpture on the beach.
