Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #8: Colorful

This week in Vancouver, the city was shrouded in smoke from the wildfires burning throughout the province.  At last count, there were over 500.  A grayish pall hung over the city, obscuring the bright blue summer sky.   So, Tina’s “colorful” theme for the Lens-Artist Photo Challenge #8 is a great opportunity to re-visit the bright colors we saw this spring and summer in the streets of Europe.

One of the delights of our trip was discovering these amazing pieces of art on the streets.  I love their uniqueness and the talent of the artists.

The Marais District in Paris is full of political activists.  I loved this image on the side of a building.  Its massive size and political overtones have a powerful impact.

On talk shows and on the streets of Vancouver, people are wondering if extensive and prolonged wildfires are the “new normal” as the climate shifts to drier, hotter summers.  We all are hoping for a good downpour to drench the sea of flames, burning now for weeks.

What climate changes have you seen in your part of the world this summer?  Do you think they are “the new normal” or transient weather patterns?

  8. I.love street art and these are great examples. Yes each year we see increasingly the effect of climate change here in Ireland. Where once we could expect regular rain, we can now have six week spells with none at all, and then torrentail down pours that case serious flooding. It’s these unpredicable extremes which are most worrying.

  9. Love your shots of street art, Patti. You’ve found some beauties. Sorry you’ve been dealing with wildfire smoke in Canada like we had there. As you know, we’ve been also been hit hard in California. It is the new normal and climate change is to blame. 😦

  15. We have so many wonderful street art installations around NYC. (I recently did a series on Instagram.) It takes a special talent to create art on that scale. The Audubon Society has commissioned street art of the 300 or so endangered/threatened North American bird species.
    Thank you for sharing this street art from around Europe. So interesting!

    • Hi, Jackie. It’s always good to hear from you. I have seen one of the Audubon birds in NYC, but I am determined to find more on my next trip to NYC. Hope all’s well with you. Glad you found the collection interesting. I found a lot of the “googles” drawings in Florence, but not anywhere else. Intriguing.

    You and your Google Pixel 2 were discussed at a work lunch today in a restaurant called the Copper Club Eatery, which is situated in the background of one of my matric farewell dance photos of my daughter.
