Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #8: Colorful

See with a different eye, visualize with a colorful mind, manifest your thoughts with the energy within.~ Michael Bassey Johnson

This week in Vancouver, the city was shrouded in smoke from the wildfires burning throughout the province.  At last count, there were over 500.  A grayish pall hung over the city, obscuring the bright blue summer sky.   So, Tina’s “colorful” theme for the Lens-Artist Photo Challenge #8 is a great opportunity to re-visit the bright colors we saw this spring and summer in the streets of Europe.

Street Art Amsterdam

Red is one of the strongest colors, it’s blood, it has a power with the eye. That’s why traffic lights are red I guess, and stop signs as well… In fact I use red in all of my paintings.~Keith Haring

One of the delights of our trip was discovering these amazing pieces of art on the streets.  I love their uniqueness and the talent of the artists.

Do you think this is Eddie Murphy?

Street Art Florence

The sound of colors is so definite that it would be hard to find anyone who would express bright yellow with base notes, or dark lake with the treble.~ Wassily Kandinsky

Bruneschelli’s Dome is inspiring, isn’t it?

All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites.~Marc Chagall

This image was a delightful surprise.

Street Art Rome

If you’re quiet, you’re not living. You’ve got to be noisy and colorful and lively.~Mel Brooks

A homage to Betty Boop.  I love those eyes.

I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music.~Joan Miro

A bit of fine art for everyone to enjoy.

Street Art Paris

The whole point is to live life and be – to use all the colors in the crayon box.~ RuPaul

The Marais District in Paris is full of political activists.  I loved this image on the side of a building.  Its massive size and political overtones have a powerful impact.

On talk shows and on the streets of Vancouver, people are wondering if extensive and prolonged wildfires are the “new normal” as the climate shifts to drier, hotter summers.  We all are hoping for a good downpour to drench the sea of flames, burning now for weeks.

What climate changes have you seen in your part of the world this summer?  Do you think they are “the new normal” or transient weather patterns?

I’ll end this post with a few reminders about the Lens-Artist Photo Challenges:

  • We hope you join the challenge this week.  Your participation is exactly what we are hoping for.  When you do, include a link to Tina’s post.
  • Use the tag “Lens-Artists” in your post.  If you use a different tag or have a different spelling, other bloggers won’t find your post in the Reader and that would be a shame.  Also keep in mind that you should use fewer than 15 tags for your post or it won’t appear in the Reader.  For more information on how to tag, click here.
  • It’s my turn to post the next challenge (#9) on Saturday, September 1.
  • Missed our initial Lens-Artists challenge announcement? Click here for details.

As always, thanks for joining the challenge and have an inspiring week!

  1. I.love street art and these are great examples. Yes each year we see increasingly the effect of climate change here in Ireland. Where once we could expect regular rain, we can now have six week spells with none at all, and then torrentail down pours that case serious flooding. It’s these unpredicable extremes which are most worrying.

  2. Love your shots of street art, Patti. You’ve found some beauties. Sorry you’ve been dealing with wildfire smoke in Canada like we had there. As you know, we’ve been also been hit hard in California. It is the new normal and climate change is to blame. 😦

  3. We have so many wonderful street art installations around NYC. (I recently did a series on Instagram.) It takes a special talent to create art on that scale. The Audubon Society has commissioned street art of the 300 or so endangered/threatened North American bird species.
Thank you for sharing this street art from around Europe. So interesting!

    • Hi, Jackie. It’s always good to hear from you. I have seen one of the Audubon birds in NYC, but I am determined to find more on my next trip to NYC. Hope all’s well with you. Glad you found the collection interesting. I found a lot of the “googles” drawings in Florence, but not anywhere else. Intriguing.

  4. Beautiful vibrant street art Patti. No I don’t think so (that it is Eddie Murphy).
You and your Google Pixel 2 were discussed at a work lunch today in a restaurant called the Copper Club Eatery, which is situated in the background of one of my matric farewell dance photos of my daughter.
