Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #65: Pick a Place

Vancouver is the most wonderful place. I put it up there with San Francisco and Sydney as a kind of magic sort of harbor city.~Terence Stamp

This week Tina challenges us to visualize a place that has captured our heart.  That’s an easy choice.

One of our favorite places is Vancouver, B.C., where our son currently lives.  This harbor city in western Canada has the advantage of being near the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains.   Because of its unique geographic location, its weather is temperate, but variable–with days of brilliant sunshine in the summer months, but changeable skies during the rest of the year.  Still, it is one of the warmest cities in Canada in the winter.

This next shot, taken from the Grandville Bridge, highlights the architecture of this city of 2.4 million people.   It has a surprising number of new ultra-modern skyscrapers, with beautiful vistas of the city and harbor.

Every time we return to Vancouver, I check on the progress of Vancouver House, one of the newest skyscrapers in the city with a unique undulating design.  Even though it hasn’t been completed yet, the view from the ground is spectacular.

Look Up Vancouver. Vancouver House.

Even from the center of the city, the country isn’t far away.  This shot was taken from Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver, near Horsehoe Bay.

We’re back on the road this week, traveling to another city that I love.   But I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the stunningly beautiful city of Vancouver, our son’s home.

  1. I loved Vancouver too Patti and I’ve seen the places in your pictures just days ago. I love that you can walk from Downtown to Stanley Park in minutes and I think the kindness of the people there helps make it such a nice place.

  2. I spent a few days in Vancouver in 1976 and loved it and again in 2018 with MGW and we both loved the visit. Last year was my first visit to Victoria and Vancouver Island, which we both loved. Great memories both times, Patti.

    • Hi, Raj. Many people say that! I still haven’t explored enough of the west coast–in Canada and the USA. It’s a big project! Thanks for your kind words about the post, too. Glad you like the sailboat shot.

  4. Vancouver!! WOW! It has grown and changed beyond belief since I grew up there. It is a nice temperate climate. However….it does have a fair share of rain. But rain never needs to be shoveled which is a blessing. Thanks for sharing these photos and showing me how much my “hometown” has grown. .

  5. It’s many years since we had our one and only visit to Canada, and to Vancouver. We loved it. From exploring the rainforest at its margins to the multicultural Granville Island, to Capilano…. how we relished exploring. Thanks for this trip down memory lane!

    • Thanks for your tips for our next visit. We went to Osoyoos on this trip, which was fabulous. We will definitely go to Squamish/Whistler on the next trip….weather permitting! I’ll take a look at your shots of Chilliwack next. Thanks so much for your thoughts!
