What’s “On Display” this week for Amy’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #76? I’m focusing on those svelte, enigmatic, and sophisticated beauties in shop windows.
Mannequins For Sale
I captured this shot on a walk through Manhattan this week. In this store, you can buy the latest style of mannequins. They’re striking, don’t you think?
Cutting Edge
This mannequin is wearing fabulous cutting-edge clothing made from recycled plastic–one of the latest trends in fashion.
Barbie Forever
I am always amazed at Barbie’s longevity. She has been popular with young girls since she was first introduced by Mattel in 1959. I saw her again this week in a window display in New York. She may change her style, but she’s forever young.
Cold As Ice
I spotted this very sophisticated model in a store window one cold night in Chicago. She startled me with her elegant beauty and realistic looks. The winter theme matched perfectly with the frigid Chicago temperatures.
Coolly Elegant
In the same shop window in Chicago, this coolly elegant model looks fabulous in winter white. Don’t you agree?
We hope you join us this week for Amy’s fun “On Display” challenge. If you do, add her link to your post. (Links from the Reader are not working correctly.) Use the Lens-Artists tag to help us find you. For instructions on how to join us, click here.
As always, Amy, Tina, Ann-Christine, and I thank you for your continued support of our photo challenge over the past year and a half, which helps to sustain our creative community here at Word Press.
Next week, we are celebrating the holidays, so we will not be publishing our challenge on Saturday, December 21. For those of you who are celebrating, we wish you a fabulous time with friends and family. We’ll be back for challenge #77 on Saturday, December 28th right here on my site. See you then!

cutting edge is my fav here – not sure I love what Barbie always represents – but it fits into the post – and enjoyed the festive theme too – perfect for display

Hi, Yvette. I am so glad you like that one, too. I am not sure about Barbie either. She can send the wrong message about the perfect body. But hopefully girls (in particular) get messages from other sources that don’t stress this. Have a wonderful holiday, too!

Sumptuous, the cold as ice lady! I especially love the first shot of her. And that cutting edge look is fun, Patti. We need more of this kind of thing, don’t we? 🙂 🙂 Sitting beside my little Christmas tree, wishing a very happy Christmas, from our house to yours!

Thank you, Jo! I am surprised to see the number of furs again on the streets of NYC. I thought they were definitely out of style. Glad you liked “cutting edge” too. Have a wonderful holiday, Jo, and all the best in the new year!

Pretty models superbly caught, Patti! My favorite is in fact the first one. And of course I had a Barbie. I remember I pretended to faint when my mother gave me my first one. She remembers it too.

How adorable, A-C. You pretended to faint. My sister and I shared 7 of them–with multiple outfits. We spent hours playing with them. I’m so glad you enjoyed the “super models!” I’m hoping you’re feeling good again very soon.

Thank you. Patti – every girl wanted a Barbie, but with a single mother I knew I might not ever get one… And I feel better now, thank you – hope that goes for you too!

Very striking models, Patti. The way you’ve shot the cool ladies brings them to life, they’re eerily realistic. I love the sculptural beauty of the Manhattan models too.

Hi, Wendy. Thank you!! I was astonished at how life-like they looked. Eerie–is right! When I looked close at the Manhattan models, I couldn’t believe how long their necks are. A bit eerie, too!!

Terrific response Patti – I just knew you’d find an original and creative response! Loved all of the displays but my favorite of course was Barbie. I SO loved her as a little girl and am so pleased that she’s finally a brunette. And loved her dazzling candy-striped gown 😊

Superb photos and angles, great subjects. Don’t mannequins have just the right anonymity and smooth features to represent everyone and no one? They are no stranger than we. Hmm.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hi, John. Thank you! Yes. They are anonymous enough that we can superimpose our own features on them…or we can try to! I think their exaggerated neck, arms, and legs makes them seem a bit weird, but I’m not disturbed by that!

A very Merry Christmas to you! This challenge has been so much fun this year. I really like your response to Amy’s challenge this week. I’ll be honest, I find mannequins creepy, so I’ve never thought to photograph them. Nicely done 🙂
Cheers, Amy

Hi, Amy. I can understand the “creepiness” factor, but I guess they don’t bother me that much. I am glad though that models are changing (at least in magazines) to show a wider variety of body types. Thanks for your compliments on the shots! They’re easy to photograph because they don’t move. 🙂

Yes, they do make for compliant subjects to photograph 🙂

I must admit I find mannequins slightly creepy and your first two certainly fit into that category for me. But a great take on this week’s challenge:)

Hi, MM. I understand the “creepiness” factor! They are a little creepy, but it doesn’t bother me too much. I think “real life” can be far more creepy!! But I’m glad you liked the shots! They’re fun to photograph.

Wow! These are so unique…and other-worldly. So Barbie made the big time I see – I wonder if she still has to wear those uncomfortably looking shoes (they were also uncomfortable to step on – for anyone walking barefoot near her wardrobe spilled on the floor!). Great choices for this prompt. The lighting adds to the mood too.

Your comment made me smile, OLU. I remember those ridiculous shoes, too! I have memories of stepping on them. And thanks too for your kind words about the images!

Hi Patti I read a few days ago already and it is certainly a creative take of the topic. Marvelous photos. It also helped me to feel “less guilty” about my hair brained take on the theme…

It was hair brained and hilarious! Perfect–given we’re in the middle of impeachment hearings here in the USA and the start of a rollicking 2020 election cycle. :). Let the fun and games begin.

I actually did an impersonation of a ranting raving Trump as well, but decided to rather not include it

When a younger lad was I, I found myself unsettled by the sight of mannequins in shop windows; might have something to do with the frozen look or fixed rictus. Seeing the movie “Mannequin” helped solve the unsettled feeling for good. 😅
