Lens-Artists #76: Models On Display

What’s “On Display” this week for Amy’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #76?  I’m focusing on those svelte, enigmatic, and sophisticated beauties in shop windows.

Mannequins For Sale

I captured this shot on a walk through Manhattan this week.  In this store, you can buy the latest style of mannequins.  They’re striking, don’t you think?

Cutting Edge

This mannequin is wearing fabulous cutting-edge clothing made from recycled plastic–one of the latest trends in fashion.

Barbie Forever

I am always amazed at Barbie’s longevity.  She has been popular with young girls since she was first introduced by Mattel in 1959.   I saw her again this week in a window display in New York.  She may change her style, but she’s forever young.

Cold As Ice

I spotted this very sophisticated model in a store window one cold night in Chicago. She startled me with her elegant beauty and realistic looks.  The winter theme matched perfectly with the frigid Chicago temperatures.

In the same shop window in Chicago, this coolly elegant model looks fabulous in winter white.  Don’t you agree?

  4. cutting edge is my fav here – not sure I love what Barbie always represents – but it fits into the post – and enjoyed the festive theme too – perfect for display

  8. Pretty models superbly caught, Patti! My favorite is in fact the first one. And of course I had a Barbie. I remember I pretended to faint when my mother gave me my first one. She remembers it too.

    • How adorable, A-C. You pretended to faint. My sister and I shared 7 of them–with multiple outfits. We spent hours playing with them. I’m so glad you enjoyed the “super models!” I’m hoping you’re feeling good again very soon.

    • Hi, Wendy. Thank you!! I was astonished at how life-like they looked. Eerie–is right! When I looked close at the Manhattan models, I couldn’t believe how long their necks are. A bit eerie, too!!

  10. Terrific response Patti – I just knew you’d find an original and creative response! Loved all of the displays but my favorite of course was Barbie. I SO loved her as a little girl and am so pleased that she’s finally a brunette. And loved her dazzling candy-striped gown 😊

    • Hi, John. Thank you! Yes. They are anonymous enough that we can superimpose our own features on them…or we can try to! I think their exaggerated neck, arms, and legs makes them seem a bit weird, but I’m not disturbed by that!

  23. Wow! These are so unique…and other-worldly. So Barbie made the big time I see – I wonder if she still has to wear those uncomfortably looking shoes (they were also uncomfortable to step on – for anyone walking barefoot near her wardrobe spilled on the floor!). Great choices for this prompt. The lighting adds to the mood too.

  26. When a younger lad was I, I found myself unsettled by the sight of mannequins in shop windows; might have something to do with the frozen look or fixed rictus. Seeing the movie “Mannequin” helped solve the unsettled feeling for good. 😅
