LAPC #231: Favorite Images of 2022

The LAPC team welcomes you back after the holiday break. We hope you had a memorable time with friends and family and enjoyed all the delicious treats of the season. But before we start our new calendar of challenges in the new year, John invites us to reminisce and share our favorite images from 2022. With pleasure, John! For this challenge, I’ve organized my photos by place. Here we go….

Boston, 2022

In the first few months of 2022, we stayed in Boston, which gave us the chance to reacquaint ourselves with the city, which is undergoing a renaissance. So much has changed in the decades since we lived there–the traffic is worse, some neighborhoods like Dorchester and East Boston are being revitalized, and there are more skyscrapers than ever before. But other things never change–like the frigid winters, the delicious seafood, the enthusiastic Boston Bruins fans, and, of course, the iconic Dunkin’ Donuts.

Here are my favorites from that time: a sunset as the commuter traffic races home over the Zakim Bridge, one of the new gleaming towers rising up over Boston, and a lock on a bridge above the Mass Pike which professes everlasting love for Boston.

Italy, 2022

Visitors often remark about the beauty of Italy, which somehow manages to elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary. These first two images bring to mind a wonderful hike up to Montefioralle, far above Greve in Chianti, famous for its vineyards adorned in autumn colors. The next 2 photos are from Florence–a bird coming in for a landing on Dante’s head in front of the Basilica di Santa Croce, and a surprise fireworks show on the Arno in June.

Vancouver, 2022

These 3 images capture the summer in and around Vancouver, B.C.– when the sun is so strong even dogs wear sunglasses at Sunset Beach and flowers bloom in Stanley Park. The last shot brings to mind a peaceful afternoon hike around a lake on Bowen Island.

Switzerland, 2022

This last set proves that the sun does shine on the Matterhorn, and people ski in the summer at 14,000 feet above the town of Zermatt. These moments were truly extraordinary and have flashed through my mind in the succeeding months.

What’s up ahead in 2023? It’s anyone’s guess. But I aspire to be like David Bowie, who said:

I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.

Such is culture… With. everything to see in Boston, like you, I found the lock symbolic. I love it and love our visits there as well, even with the traffic. lol. And Italy…yes…always elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary.

  3. Terrific choices this week Patti – some I remember some new to me. I loved the Boston images – been there many times but don’t think I’ve ever seen that bridge! Especially loved the fireworks, the dog in sunglasses (priceless) and the snowy scene in Switzerland. Here’s to a fabulous 2023!!

  4. I thought nothing can beat what I feel when I see Italy but this time Boston hit the bullseye. Stunning architecture and I loved how you captured its spirit, Patti.

Also I’m stealing David Bowie’s quote, that’s a mantra to live by. Happy 2023.
