One spring evening, we attended a concert at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The light from the evening sky poured through the cathedral windows, highlighting them in brilliant shades of blue, purple, and gold. By luck, we were in the cathedral at twilight, the time when the color blue is especially intense and creates dramatic effects. Photographers call this time the Blue Hour.
For this week’s challenge, share your interpretation of blue—the color, the mood, or the time of day. It’s up to you!
- In your post, include a link to this challenge.
- Use the tag “Lens-Artists” in your post. If you use a different tag, other bloggers won’t find your post in the Reader and that would be a shame. Also keep in mind that you should use fewer than 15 tags for your post or it won’t appear in the Reader. For more information on how to tag, click here.
- Ann-Christine will post the next challenge on Saturday, August 11th.

Have You Seen These?
Last week, Sue of Words Visual treated us to a variety of interpretations of the theme “soft.”
Debbie Smyth of Travel with Intent showed us some wonderfully soft golden light in Edinburgh.
As always, thanks for joining the challenge and have an inspiring week!

It definitely is a great shade of blue! Thanks for joining us!
Reblogged this on All About Writing and more.
Hi Patti, this is a stunning shot, it makes me want to go back to Notre Dame. And aren’t phone cameras amazing?
I think I may have just subscribed instead of following you, so I’ve done both now! I’ve pingbacked to here, so I haven’t put my link again 🙂
Thanks so much, Lucid Gypsy. So glad you enjoyed it. Phone cameras are amazing. The quality and resolution now are better than my first DSLR. Thanks for joining us!

Hi Patti my introduction to my post is the following:This week Patti of the famed Lens-Artists quartet shows us a beautiful photo of the interior of the Notre Dame cathedral and urges us to share our interpretation of blue
It is indeed a bluetiful capture.
You are so kind, Abrie! We are all glad you’re joining our challenges!

Thanks so much, Na’ama! Nice to meet you here. We’re glad you’re joining our challenge!
These are so much fun, I just need a bit more time in the day … but I seem to find corners of time anyway. So there it is … 🙂 Thank you for the warm welcome.
You’re very welcome, Na’ama.
When I saw the headline of your post, I thought about the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal. The altar has a beautiful blue-gold cast, and the ceiling is light the night sky. We were definitely on the same wavelength! 🙂
Hi, Jackie. I’m really enjoying your podcasts. Great advice. I’ve never seen Notre Dame in Montreal. It sounds gorgeous. I’ll never forget one very long, frigid weekend in Montreal. I really need to go back in the warmer weather. 🙂
Hi Patti…Thought I’d add more blue to the mix. Love your shot!
Hi, Sandy. Nice to meet you here! Glad you’re joining us and thanks for the kind words. It was definitely a case of the right place at the right time. 🙂
And thanks to you and your cohorts for coordinating the Lens-Artists Challenge.
Thanks for initiating the lens-artists challenge!
Thanks so much for joining us, nes! We’re delighted.
Beautiful capture of the Notre Dame.
A month or so ago I’d gone to the Mission San Xavier de Bac and since a lot of the artwork of Mary had her wearing blue, I decided to show them.
Thank you so much, MNL. Do you have a link to your post?
Sorry I thought I’d put it with this reply before as my pingbacks only seem to work half the time. Here you go. Hope you like it. I ended up writing about “blue” too.

Thanks for joining us!
Thanks for having me 🙂
Thank you, Patti, for this fine rendition of Notre Dame; it’s a very long time since I was there. Good to revisit. And thank you for this excellent challenge which made me recall a perfect blue day: https://tishfarrell.com/2018/08/06/the-blissfulness-of-blue-on-a-winters-day-in-wales/
Wales is such a gorgeous place, Tish! I haven’t been yet, but I want to go. We’re so glad you’re joining us. Thanks for your kind words about the shot and the challenge. 🙂
Your timing was so good and hence the impressive capture of a cathedral I visited aeons ago – I chose a selective colour shot on a windy headland
https://poetrypix.com/2018/08/06/choosing-the-blues/
So glad to meet you here, Laura. And thanks for joining the challenge. Your shot is lovely.
Nothing is bluer than that sky! Thank you for creating a new photo challenge. I have posted an entry here:

Beautiful shots of beautiful bodies of water. We’re so glad you joined the challenge!
A great theme. I love blue hour, but I’ve gone more physically blue than that this week: https://travelwithintent.com/2018/08/06/hanging-out-to-dry/
So glad you’re joining us, Debbie. I love your unique take on the challenge!
Love the new challenge! Your photo is beautiful!
Thank you so much, Aletta! So glad you’re joining us!
Thank you Patti!
What an amazing capture Patti.
Thank you, Rupali!
What a stunning blue. I visited Notre Dame many years ago but did not know about “the Blue Hour”.. My own blue contribution is on https://murtaghsmeadow.wordpress.com/2018/08/06/blue/
Thanks so much, Murtagh. 🙂 I started investigating the Blue Hour after taking the shot. 🙂
Oh, beautiful! We are going to be in Paris next June, so I will try to remember to visit Notre Dame at the “blue hour”!
It’s a real treat. You can look for concerts in the evening at ND. I’m not sure you can go in that late in the day with regular admission. Concerts are the best bet.
Here’s my take on blue and the blues.
http://amoralegria.com/2018/08/06/blue-and-the-blues-at-vvs/
Wow! Gazing at your photo I’m reminded at how extraordinary technological advances can be — a pocket-sized phone with a tiny camera able to capture all that.
So true, Atreyee. They are so powerful. I have to confess one of the reasons I picked the Google Pixel was its camera. 🙂
The cathedral is beautiful – here is my entry for the week
https://norasphotos4u.wordpress.com/2018/08/06/lens-artist-photo-challenge-topic-blue/
Thank you, Nora. And your flower was a gorgeous shade of blue.
Thanx Patti!!
Change of mood, Patti 🙂 🙂 https://restlessjo.me/2018/08/08/feeling-blue/
Heavens, so many responses on here! Must be keeping you busy 🙂
It is…but it’s great to have so many responses. 🙂
A beautiful combination of the blue and gold in this light Patti. I have been inside the Notre Dame on an overcast morning and it looked very different! My contribution for this week’s challenge is here: https://whippetwisdom.com/2018/08/08/wordless-wednesday-shades-of-blue/
Hi, whippetwisdom. Glad to see you here. I’ve also seen ND on different kinds of days–but this one was stunningly beautiful. Thanks too for your kind words and joining the challenge.
Beautifully captured, Patti! What an experience you had. Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂
Hi, Amy! So glad you’re back! Thanks. It was an amazing experience. The acoustics were great too. 🙂
Thank you, Patti! Happy to see these many responses. 🙂 🙂
Me too!!
The first picture looks really good.
Thanks so much, Yusra! Glad you stopped by!
